ESTABLISHMENTIt was created in accordance with a resolution adopted by the Second Islamic Summit Conference of the Kings, and Heads of States and Governments held in Lahore, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, in February 1974.
OBJECTIVESIts objectives are as follows:
- Help to mould the Islamic identity, improve the conditions of life of the African Muslims through the contributions of their own civilizations, the advantages of which they should use to serve Community and the Ummah;
- Allow the students to acquire scientific and technological knowledge for the benefit of Islamic countries;
- Promote academic research and examine social problems within the Islamic thought and understanding in relation with environmental needs and achieve solidarity and brotherhood between peoples of the Islamic Community;
- Promote the renewal of the Islamic heritage in the African continent and spread it throughout the world;
- Create the appropriate framework and the necessary means to higher education and postgraduate studies in all fields of science and knowledge;
- Give specific heed to Islamic studies, research and the teaching and the development of the Arabic language; and
- Promote cultural, social and sports activities.
Fields of Study and SpecializationAt present, the University is composed of:
- Faculty of Shari’a and Islamic Studies;
- Faculty of Arabic Language and Literature;
- Institute of Higher Education, Pedagogy and Teachers Training;
- African Centre for the Revalorization of the Islamic Heritage;
- “IQRA” Centre for Technical and Vocational Training;
- Section of Postgraduate Studies; and
- Women Collage for Islamic Studies and Arabic Language.
