More than 120 Muslim leaders Commit to the Future of Afghanistan during International Conference in Turkey From Afghanistan and from around the globe, imams, civil society leaders, and world renown Islamic scholars have participated in “Islamic Cooperation for a Peaceful Future in Afghanistan,” an unprecedented gathering of over 120 imams and scholars, from all provinces of Afghanistan and every corner of the world, which took place in Istanbul, Turkey, November 30-December 2, 2011. The conference was a non-governmental forum with impartial views toward governments and opposition groups. Participants have joined with the Afghanistan Advisory Board of The Project for Islamic Cooperation for a Peaceful Future in Afghanistan, Marmara University, George Mason University, in the exploration of vital themes of peace for the future of Afghanistan. read more

Reconciliation Initiative: OIC to hold Afghan Ulema assemblage Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu,Secretary General of OIC has said that his organization was committed to holding an Ulama Conference at an appropriate time in cooperation with the Afghan authorities with the aim of contributing to Afghan reconciliation process. This will be the first intra Afghan OIC initiative of reconciliation following announcement of US troops withdrawal from war-worn Afghanistan, a process hoped to complete by 2014. read more

OIC: “Stop the war, back Afghan-led reconciliation” The head of the Organization of the Islamic Conference said on Thursday that military action in Afghanistan should be halted to make way for reconciliation.

"For restoring durable peace in Afghanistan, there is a need to look beyond the military option, which is not the way out," said Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, secretary general of OIC, the world's largest pan-Islamic body. read more

OIC to host a meeting on Afghanistan A large number of Muslim countries are expected to attend a meeting of the International Contact Group on Afghanistan at the OIC headquarters here on March 3.
