The OIC's Humanitarian Activities in Somalia The devastating famine in the Horn of Africa is still affecting over 12 million people in a number of countries, including Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia. While numerous UN agencies, non-governmental organizations and civil society groups are working to provide assistance in famine affected areas, they have not had as productive results in Somalia as they have had elsewhere in the Horn, mainly because of the precarious security situation in a number of areas that are controlled by Al-Shabab. read more

OIC assessing humanitarian work in famine-hit Somalia, preparing new response The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has said it has begun assessing the situation in famine-ravaged Somali with a view to preparing appropriate response to the continuing crisis. According to an OIC statement released to APA on Wednesday, the organization has dispatched a high-level delegation led by Assistant Secretary General for International Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Ambassador Atta Al-Manane Bakhit to Mogadishu on Tuesday. read more
