Dr. Azzeddine Laraki was born in 1929 in the city of Fez where he received elementary and high school education before enrolling at the Faculty of Medicine in Paris from which he obtained a doctorate in 1957. He holds a chair at the Faculty of Medicine in Rabat.On 10 October 1997,
Dr.Azzeddine Laraki was appointed Minister of National
Education and Executive Training,a post he held until his appointment as Prime Minister in December 1986.
Late King Hassan II (may Allah Bless his soul) entrusted him with the task of representing Morocco at the Fifth Islamic Summit Conference in Kuwait/January 1987 and at the meeting of the Summit Bureau in Kuwait in April 1988. Dr. Laraki represented Morocco at the Sixth Islamic Summit Conference in Dakar in 1991 and participated in several meetings of the Al-Quds Committee chaired by His Majesty King Hassan II.
At the beginning of 1995, he was elected Chairman of the Governing Board of the Akhawayn University in Ifrane, an office he holds until now.
Dr. Laraki started political action at an early age in 1942 in the Istiqlal Party. He played an active role in the struggle for the liberation of Morocco. He worked for many years side by side with the Leader Allal Al-Fassi. He was elected to the membership of the Party's Executive Committee.
Dr. Azzeddine Laraki has published several scientific and literary research works. He is a member of many national and foreign scientific associations as well as of Morocco's Writers' Union and the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco of which he held the office of Assistant Permanent Secretary General.
Dr. Laraki is married and has three sons. He is well-known for his devoutness and open-mindedness. He has friendly relations with a number of statesmen in the Arab and Islamic worlds.
